Introducing Christian Information
Service, Incorporated (CIS-INC)

By Bill Bray, President

HISTORY: The Christian Information Service, Inc. first began in 1967 when I was a young bi-vocational missionary working as a sub-editor on the BANGKOK POST and later as a foreign correspondent for NEWSWEEK.

CIS-INC was then organized as a registered charity under the name Thailand Christian Information Service. We did everything in both Thai and English. Eventually I had a network of Christian stringers in many of the 21 countries of Asia where I worked for the Lord – especially Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, India, Nepal and Vietnam.

STRUCTURE: CIS-INC was really a fellowship or mission society of worker-priests with bi-vocational ministries in secular media. When I returned to Chicago, this community of believers was eventually re-organized in 1973 as the Christian Information Service, Incorporated.

We are a 501(3) c non-profit organization under American law and all contributions to the ministry are tax-deductible. We are delighted to apply our First Amendment rights here in the USA to professional communications.

PROGRAMS: We offer six organized program areas or Doorways of Hope in the media and over the years these have involved partnerships with scores of other organizations:
  • CHRISTIAN MEDIA FELLOWSHIP – A group of full-time or bi-vocational communications professionals that includes the CIS-PCEN talent team.
  • CIS MISSIONS – We honor designated gifts to all approved projects or missionaries and we welcome working partnerships with indigenous missions.
  • CIS SEMINARS AND TOURS – We sponsor seminars like Bill Bray’s Friend Raising Boot Camp, or pilgrimages to Bible lands and other mission fields.
  • CIS NEWS AND INFORMATION – We provide journalism to spread truth and make a prophetic impact on the Internet and mass media.
  • CIS CHURCH GROWTH SERVICES – The Body of Christ acts as the arms and legs of our Lord, and we want to help her through development campaigns.
  • CIS MINISTRIES AND PROJECTS – We help Christian community outreaches of love to the sick, the stranger, the poor, the naked and prisoners.
Our approach is “partnerships” with organization that provide actual ministries while we provide them with communications and development services they need.

PARTNERSHIPS: Through the years our missionary staff has been loaned to many organizations and churches including Bridges International/CCC, CBN/700 Club, Christian Aid, Gospel for Asia, Hopegivers International, International Students, The Salvation Army, World Children’s Fund, World Vision and thousands of local churches and missions. Our media work has appeared in thousands of publications around the world and we maintain an active role in many associations such as ACMI, COSIM, ECA, and NRB. Our Doctrinal Statement and Annual Financial Report are available upon request.

MEMBERSHIP: We are looking for new partnerships and memberships on a full and part-time staff basis.

MONTHLY FOR MISSIONS: We also need MONTHLY FOR MISSIONS Faith Partners who will pledge $30 or more a month or $360 a year. That’s a minimum of $1 a day. If you make a Faith Partner promise to CIS-INC or one of our approved missions or projects, your first gift each year will be applied to your Annual Membership dues and the rest to the cause you are supporting. (You may opt out of CIS membership by asking us in writing.)
